What everyone can learn about leadership from conductors

This is a great TED video in which Italy Talgam discusses leadership styles, using clips of great conductors to do so.  I hadn’t seen Carlos Kleiber before–fantastic.  And of course the grand finale is Lenny Bernstein–with an amazing economy of motion.  What’s great about this video is how clearly it presents the importance of empowering, rather than over-controlling, leadership.  Best illustrations I’ve ever seen on how a great leader gives away authority while retaining it.  As Talgam points out, it’s not a zero-sum game.

I saw parts of it at a conference in December, and found it last week at Butts in the Seats.  Delighted to locate it!
